Provincial Spaces and Layered Monarchies in the Han and Roman Empires

The sixth meeting of this year’s Ancient Societies Workshop on ‘Frontiers and Provinces’ will take place this Friday, 12 February at noon in Phelps Hall 407.  Lunch will be served, as always.

 

Our speaker will be Carlos Noreña (Berkeley), who will nicely synthesize the two imperial perspectives - Roman and Chinese - that we have explored in our December and January workshops, with a talk on “Provincial Spaces and Layered Monarchies in the Han and Roman Empires”.  Professor Noreña has suggested a couple of readings to get us thinking this week, available on our Workshop Classes *v2 site (https://classesv2.yale.edu/x/qgGYex).
