The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library invites you to a reception and lecture celebrating and honoring the gift of the Olivetan Gradual (Beinecke 1184) by Susan Weil in memory of her husband, Kenneth M. Weil ‘45W. This unique fifteenth-century manuscript of medieval liturgical music, massive in size and bound in heavy wood and iron, also contains a number of illuminations by Girolamo da Milano, the famous “Olivetan Master,” and was one of the first examples of his work still intact in its original context. The afternoon’s program will feature a lecture by Professor Susan Boynton of Columbia University on “Sound and Image in the Olivetan Gradual.” The event will be held in the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at 3:30 PM on October 27. Please join us in celebrating this unique manuscript and the new and innovative scholarship it brings to Yale.
