A Message from the Chairs

This Newsletter marks the end of the first year during which the two of us have co-chaired ARCHAIA, Yale’s Program for the Study of Ancient and Premodern Cultures and Societies. We took over this role in the summer of 2019 from Joe Manning
(Classics and History) and Ed Kamens (East Asian Languages and Literatures), who had aptly steered the program since 2015 and deserve the sincere thanks of the whole ARCHAIA community for their excellent work. Joe Manning not only co-chaired ARCHAIA, he also led, together with Anders Winroth and Johanna Fridriksdottir, the 2018 ARCHAIA Study Tour to Iceland and Greenland, to explore the history and science of climate change.
