Archaia Summer Study Tour 2018

The Yale Archaia short summer course this year was to Iceland and Greenland, and led by Joe Manning (History & Classics) Anders Winroth (History (Johanna Fridriksdottir (Humanities and Medieval Studies). We were based at Geocamp, in Kevlavik, a wonderful place run by Ólafur Arnbjörnsson. The graduate students were Christina Carolus (Anthropology), Constantin Cless (History), Danny Eastman (Religious Studies), Jennifer Weintritt (Classics), and Joe Morgan (History & Classics). We had lectures in Paleoclimatology and climate change, the history of settlement of the North Atlantic, the icelandic saga tradition, the global impact of icelandic volcanic eruptions, climate change and Greenlandic fishing industry, Norse settlement of Greenland and the history of early settlement in Iceland.
