2017
In 2017, Archaia introduced its first annual summer study tour. The tour is designed to familiarize students with a place and a problem related to antiquity and the premodern world through travel and exploration of the environment and material culture in their place of origin. The tour is open to graduate students in the Archaia qualification. The first study tour, led by Professors Noel Lenski and Mick Hunter, took students to Southern Italy.
2018
The 2018 study tour was to Iceland and Greenland, and led by Joe Manning (History & Classics) Anders Winroth (History) and Johanna Fridriksdottir (Humanities and Medieval Studies). The group was based at Geocamp, in Kevlavik, a wonderful place run by Ólafur Arnbjörnsson. The graduate students were Christina Carolus (Anthropology), Constantin Cless (History), Danny Eastman (Religious Studies), Jennifer Weintritt (Classics), and Joe Morgan (History & Classics).
